Jar of eyes
by Kimice Hugis
The eyes stare at me blankly
All in different directions
The jar is half way filled,
Or empty, I could never tell
I think of where I got them, each one
Possibly those are the memories to keep
The empty half are the memories I let go
The memories lacking colour
Each a different one
The colours are clear and translucent
They held no light then, none now
Instead they send the light back into the world
Dancing on the walls
Moonlight, the brightest
I stare longer, watching
Some eyes watch me back
Others too preoccupied to notice
In their own heads they think, other stare
I stare back
The dusty jar
